My Checklist |
Here is an outline of the check-list I used. Boatyard contact phone number: Boatyard reference number: Name of boat: Asking price: BW licence expires ........................... Boat safety certificate expires ........................... Length: Once you start to look at boats, it soon becomes apparent what can fit into various lengths. I knew what I wanted on board, and I knew that this couldn't be fitted into less that 50 ft. I also wanted a 'go-anywhere' boat, so I had a 60 ft upper limit. This knowledge saved lots of time, by instantly excluding unsuitable boats. Security, locks etc.: Colour: This wasn't on my check-list, as colour didn't bother me - I was expecting to repaint the boat anyway. Mooring points - bows, stern and centre: Portholes or windows (I had a preference for portholes): Side hatches: 'Trad' style? I wasn't interested in a cruiser or semi-trad or fibre-glass boat. Forward well deck or 'tug' style: Front doors style: Gas locker and other external stowage: Navigation lights, tunnel light: Aerials: Roof tidies: Berths: Water heating systems: Calorifier: Cooking systems; Shower (I didn't want space wasted on a bath): Loo: Drying area/wet clothes space: Fridge? Galley layout: Storage: Capacities:
Electricity:
Engine:
Office space?
