A typical bit of built environment intrusion into the Mecklenburg lakes. Boats are popular. Many of the houses are thatched, as reeds grow everywhere. The wooden garages are boat houses, to protect the boats from the harsh winters. Many boathouses have living accommodation built up on the roof.
